Authorities in South Africa are looking into the deaths of at least 22 young people in a nightclub.
The victims were discovered strewn across the floors and tables of the Enyobeni Tavern in the East London coastal town of Enyobeni.
The bodies were transported to mortuaries, where post-mortem examinations, including toxicology tests, will be performed to determine the cause of death.
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa offered his "deepest condolences" to the victims' families.
"East London news" "This tragedy is made all the more tragic by the fact that it occurred during Youth Month - a time when we... advocate and advance opportunities for improved socioeconomic conditions for our nation's youth," he said in a tweet.
"East London news" "You can't just trade in the middle of society like this and expect young people not to experiment," he said at the scene.
The incident happened early Sunday morning. Those discovered dead ranged in age from 18 to 20.
According to the AFP news agency, a stampede was ruled out as the cause of death because there were "no visible wounds."
